The latest film by Milos Forman "Goya's Ghosts" is not your perfect summer flick, but you have to see it.
First, Natali Portman (one of my favorite young actresses) in an Oscar deserving role. She just amazes me as an actress every time I see her, and this role was so tough and deep and emotional, so perfectly executed. Then the rest of cast is just as great, with Javier Bardem (my new favorite) and Stellan Skarsgard as Francisco Goya, the famous Spanish painter that find himself in the middle of a scandal involving his muse.
I always liked movies about painters and their work, where you get a glimpse of their creative process, especially the ones that lived in the times of kings and queens and were sort of celebrities of their society. I wonder why artist these days do not enjoy this respectful status as they had hundreds years back. Today it's the paparazzi that document our "kings" and "queens" and our history.
If you love art and interested in history, this is your movie! One of the best in the genre in my opinion. So forget the Simpsons and Transformers, go watch a real movie!
