Gender: Female Place: Washington DC,
US Birthday: 9/25/1982
| About: BiriBelle is a young women's clothing line that fuses West African fabrics and dyeing techniques with vintage and bohemian style.
While the Biribelle woman may have a special connection to the African Diaspora through friends and family, history, study, or travel, the cosmopolitan woman who wears BiriBelle is a conscious person who appreciates the beauty and intersection of other cultures in her everyday life.
This appreciation is reflected in her tastes in music, food, friends, fun, and especially in her fashion. Welcome to the ultimate in Afrochic!
The BiriBelle logo is a derivation of the adinkra symbol hye wonhye (pronounced shay-wo-en-shay). It is a symbol of permanence and can be loosely translated to mean "unburnable." While the owner’s Liberian heritage and obsession with vintage clothing certainly contribute to BiriBelle’s style, BiriBelle LLC grew out of a study abroad trip to Ghana, West Africa in 2003. Hours were spent shopping in the market, looking at yards of colorful fabrics and beads. We learned about how these fabrics were made and the meanings of the adinkra symbols that adorn a vast majority of them. Armed with American and European fashion magazines and our own sense of style, the designers created an African wardrobe based on modern and vintage styles. The results were overwhelmingly popular back home in New York, Washington, DC, and in Los Angeles. After being asked to do a fashion show our personal wardrobes, we knew we were on to something...and thus, BiriBelle was born.
BiriBelle's History
After nearly selling out of our first line last year (Spring/Summer 07) and exhibiting at venues such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Afropunk Party, Harvard Business School’s Africa Business Conference, and DC Fashion Week to rave reviews, BiriBelle was selected as one of the inaugural members of the DEKKA Design Showroom which opened in Washington, DC in April 2008. BiriBelle has been featured in African Vibes Magazine, City Living Source Magazine, covered on Comcast and Channel 7’s Local Point TV, and deemed one of the fashion industry’s hottest emerging African designers by Ladybrille.com in 2008

| | Hi
I am Lynn from Synergy Events Company. We are doing a fashion show for the Boston Fashion Week to be held on the 19th of September and is looking for designers to do a group show at the event with us. You will have the chance of promoting your designs on the runway infront of the press and VIP guests, thereby expanding your reach towards media and potential buyers. There is a minimal fee of $500 but I can assure you of a return investment of 10x as much as what you have to pay to get involved. We are lucky to have as a participating designer, fashion celebrity Jerry Tam of the Project Runway Show. We have a free hotel room for you to stay at in Boston on the 19th if you wish to participate.
Please feel free to drop me a note at lynnsynergy@yahoo.com so I can send you more info about it.
Thanks.
Lynn Goff
