I must confess, I love false eyelashes! I love all kinds of false lashes. From tiny or fat, long individual flairs, to tiny demi strip lashes, to starry, fluttery, stylized lashes. Long as they're black, I love 'em!
My love of lashes started over 35 years ago. As an impressionable young girl I had this uber glamourous older cousin Judy who lived with us. Judy was so beautiful, she was a model and worked as a Playboy Bunny at the old Playboy club in Detroit. This was the late sixties and to be a Playboy Bunny was like the super coolest job a girl could have. I used to watch for hours as my cousin changed her already beautiful face into an absolute masterpiece of makeup perfection. She sculpted and highlighted and shimmered and glowed. Then the piece de resistance, the eyelashes at the end.
Now my cousin was an entertainer so her eyelashes were always super long and thick. They looked like little spiders. Remember, it was the late sixties. She was so adept with the application of strip lashes it was like a science. She boasted that she could put them on in a moving car, and drive at the same time! Well maybe she exaggerated (I hope!) but you get the point.
Growing up under the influence on Judy and my other gorgeous cousin Nisie. I could not help but learn to love a ton of makeup and long, lovely lashes. I'm 5'10" and so at the age of 14, I begged my mother to let me go to modeling school. I went to the Barbizon School of Modeling and learned how to apply makeup for the fashion stage, television, print media, as well as for (boring) daytime and evening application. When we got to the eyelash application, I already had it down pat! So at the age of 14, my real love of eyelashes started. My favorite for everyday use were #26 Black Mod Lashes.
Over the years my tastes in lashes have changed and reflected my moods. Sometimes I'd go for a long period of wearing my own lashes. But then the lash bug would strike again, like now. I like to wear individual lashes because I don't wear makeup at the gym. At least with the lashes, I can look half way decent because the other half is messed up by time I work out for two hours! The only thing about individual lashes is that they tend to take your natural lashes out after a while. So what I will do is to stop wearing them for a couple of months and wear strip lashes instead. This allows my own lashes to grow back and then I may even wear them for a while. I love being a woman. It is just so much fun! With all the eyelash and makeup choices to choose from, one should never be bored.
Eyelashes are fun. Give them a try sometimes and see for yourself. Love lashes!
