Grunge is back! Black is a must and berry shades make up the hottest palette this season! These have all been spotted in designer Fall 2008 Collections all over the runway! No designer however, succeeds better with its vision than Gucci did with its Fall ’08 line. I’m not usually one to be a fan of Gucci, but after this collection I definitely will be paying more attention to its next collections. This collection was by far one of the most captivating they have had. What made this collection so strong was Gucci’s ability to stay constant through out while simultaneously being innovative with its concept.

This season the whole collection concentrated on taking things to a whole other level. With its stovepipe black velour pants, leather jackets and fringe as well as tassels all over the place, you could almost call this “Rocker Chic”. Not to mention all the studs used on various pieces through out. From leather jackets to totes, belts and even making its way down to the shoes – boots decked out completely in studs! It was clear that this collection was heavily inspired by the 70’s hippie-ness, grunge and of course the influence of the good old rock n’ roll!

Keeping similar silhouettes, tight and defining on the legs and flared and flowy at the bodice, greatly contributed to its consistency as a collection. If it wasn’t skinny pants, it was black tights, and if it wasn’t flowy tunics it was compensated with luxurious fur jackets. Again, the “hippie” vibe kept the collection together as well. Floral and ethnic prints though out, use of suede and handmade embroidery details on its blouses. Another thing that played a major role was: layering. Lots of accessories, gold, belts and hip scarves all combined over and under the other. A lot of focus on the hips and waist as there was pretty much a belt on every model that strutted down the runway. And to come all together with these inspirations of course, their models rocked that wavy, messy hair look. All in one, this collection exceeded its expectations by combining many influences and making it upscale and extremely luxurious.
