The Academy of Art University in San Francisco have given their recent graduates a platform to showcase their budding designs at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion week since 2005. This year we had the opportunity to view a compilation of promising designs from their latest crop of fresh talent including one menswear and five womenswear collections. The fashion elite came out to show support to the young talent. Among the front row was actress Nia Long, whom cheered for designs that caught her eye. Top model, Asia Iman also walked the show, creating a stir from the students that filled the Tent during the runway show.
The design team, Emily Melville and Ivanka Georgieva delivered the most cohesive and stellar presentation at the show. Draped silhouettes and self-designed textiles displaying landscape paintings, truly stole the show. I’m sure this won’t be the last we’ll see or hear from the design duo.
The other designers that showed their Fall 09 collections included: The Britex Fabrics Project, Qianya Martin, Heather Howard & Cat Janky, Scott Mafarland and I-Shan Liou & Myoung Hee Kim.
