With a front row that included Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Anderson Cooper, Graydon Carter and Gloria Vanderbilt, the excitement and buzz in the air of the big tent was palpable when they Diane Von Furstenberg show began, forty minutes after scheduled.
As usual, Diane did not disappoint with her spring collection titled “Rock Goddess”. Staying true to her aesthetic and expanding on themes explored in last season’s collection, the clothes were a combination of a psychedelic hippie mixed with the flowing silhouettes that are omnipresent on the runway this season.
The prints were mainly in jewel tones and exuded a boho-chic joie de vivre. The models also wore flowery headbands, giving them a pagan goddess appearance and underscoring the show’s message. It seemed that Diane also took inspiration from Missoni’s signature horizontal multicolored prints, which made their way into a few dresses.
As was the case last season, the waists are still belted outside of dresses and cardigans, providing the only structure in clothes that were billowing and relaxed. It was another excellent collection from the now iconic designer where the transition from runway to retail doesn’t have to be imagined, being more assured than a Fern Mallis sighting at Fashion Week.
