Sweet Pea was the first one to show this morning at the Bryant Park tent, and despite her personal sweetness I was a little underwhelmed by the collection (as would Michael Kors say). The first look, which is supposed to set the direction for the entire show was probably the weakest - with big buttons and a color palette consisting of washed out pink and mustard didn't provoke any curiosity for what about to come. Luckily for Sweet Pea the collection progressed much better and even ended on a high note with an amazingly elegant all black and white piece.
It looked like Sweet Pea tried to follow many trends this season and as a result failed to come up with a cohesive collection. There was plaid, metallics, high waisted pants, colorful tights, hats, ruffles, zippers, gloves, silk dresses, hats in colors of mustard, pink, blue, black, white, green, red and yellow - this is probably the most a design collection can handle. In addition, almost every piece was accompanied by very bold jewelry, some even made of plastic. Not a great choice for fall.
Unfortunately for Sweet Pea she was unable to show us who she really is and develop her own story during this competition. While some pieces looked cute and completely wearable, there was lack of bigger designer vision, and that' s what Project Runway is about...
