The Blonds show, held at the Prince George Ballroom, felt like a journey through designer Phillipe Blond’s psyche. The show attracted a crowd that was as eccentric and fabulous as the collection itself. Present in the audience were Patricia field, drag queens, and transvestites galore.
The first looks of the show were fetish-like, almost medieval pieces that were both dark in color and attitude. Spikes jettisoned from black corsets and models had had a hard time walking through the entrance with hair that was teased high into the air.
As the show progressed, the outfits became more glittery and extravagant. Corsets with gold chains replaced the spikes. It still was difficult to imagine anyone wearing any of these majestic pieces, but that did not take away from their splendor and imagination.
The looks continued to move into the realm of fantasy with the final outfit being a Swarovski crystal encrusted corset that sparkled more brightly than diamonds with an astonishing long, white, Cruella De Vil-type fur that trailed magnificently as the model made her way around the runway.
