If there was any doubt that Zac Posen is one of, if not the most exciting and inspiring young designers, such disbelief was quelled and obliterated last night. The level of innovation presented makes it difficult to compare the collection to anything else produced by another designer. Zac Posen can only be measured against Zac Posen.
The entire show was a glamorous production from the top models who walked the runway including Raquel Zimmermann, Coco Rocha, Lily Donaldson and Natasha Poly to a front row that included the Williams Sisters fresh from their victories on the tennis courts, it was high-wattage and high fashion from beginning to end.
The collection opened with pretty dresses in sorbet that recalled a princess but the clothes that came after moved the attitude into an edgier realm with pieces like a cropped motorcycle jacket and a leopard print dress. Overall, the clothes were more flowing and airy than last season, with ruffles and fabrics that included Lycra jersey and silks, contributing the very general notion of Spring/Summer. At the same time, there was still a feeling of structure that pervaded and was visible in dresses with exaggerated feminine forms like built-up wide hips. The last looks of the show were stunning gowns set in black that will surely be making many cameos on the red carpet.
