Neon Barbie

Neon Barbie
Neon Barbie

Neon Barbie is a blacklight fashion show based out of Chicago.  Sporting alternative hair, makeup, and clothing (or body paint) done by professionals, models walk the runway to trance music while glowing under UV lights.  These fashion shows have been performed in numerous dance clubs in Chi-town, including Enclave and Republic.  They also have appeared in Milwaukee, WI.

It is a breath of fresh air to see such a unique kind of fashion show.  The creative use of paint and light to create such original looks is inspiring and really highlights (no pun intended) the idea of fashion as artwork.

Neon Barbie has numerous sponsers, including Windy City Media and Glam Live, a "fashion for awareness" event that aims to promote breast cancer awareness.

If you live in the Chicago area, make sure to check out the schedule at your favorite club.  Neon Barbie just might be coming to a dance floor near you!  If you are interested in Neon Barbie or Glam Live or just want to look at more pictures, check out the links below:

I find the whole Neon Barbie thing fabulous.  If airbrushing and bodypainting were cheaper, I would probably be sporting some of those runway looks as my own everyday fashion.  I wish more people would get funky wigs or color their hair in crazy colors.  I' m all about the pink, personally.

While I think modeling in one of these shows would be a blast, I imagine it' s just as much fun for all the make-up and hair and wardrobe people as well, not to mention the audience.  And I love the reference to "Barbie" because these shows prove that doing something completely wild and against the grain can be beautiful, too.  They aren' t stereotypical big breasted, blond Barbies; they are wild, luminous, unique, glowing Neon Barbies.

So don' t be like everyone else--be neon!

They actually do have males in their shows. Take a look at the galleries on those sites--definately got some guys in there somewhere!

Please be sure to mention the designer :) The show was my baby, except for the name, and I was responsible for the fashions pictured in the images you have posted. Very nice article and thank you for the many compliments! If you are looking to write a new article, please come see my next show, The Blacklight Ball, at Vertigo nightclub in Joliet, September 13.
