Ralph Lauren was born on October 14, 1939 in Bronx, NY studied at the City College of New York and served in the United States Army from 1962-1964. After his military stint, he married Ricky Low-Beer and they had three boys: Andrew, David and Dylan.

In 1967, he created his famous English tweedy look under the Polo label. In 1968, he became founder, designer and chairman of Polo Fashions New York. He rose to world fame when he designed the men's costume for The Great Gatsby, the 1974 film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel starring Robert Redford.

Being costume designer for The Great Gatsby turned out to be very fitting for Ralph Lauren. F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel proved to be timeless that 75 years after it was published, people are still fascinated by it.

And like the novel, Ralph Lauren's designs are also timeless, that season after season, we find ourselves looking forward to it. He has constructed, deconstructed and reconstructed his own designs.
