So yesterday I posted an article about the lack of pockets in purses. Today I want to tell designers about something else they forget.
Arch support and cushioning in shoes!
To me, a good pair of shoes should be like a good bra. It should comfortably support every curve. It should feel like it's not even there.
Apparently shoe designers disagree. To them, shoes should be torture devices. I guess all women to them are terrorists.
Look, a LOT of weight and pressue goes on feet. No matter if you're a 110 pound super model or a 230 pound cow like myself. ALL that weight is going to the soles of your feet whenever you stand.
Now think about which you'd rather have strapped to your feet when you walk - a firm memory foam pillow or a hard plywood board?
Any sane person would pick the pillows. But shoe designers seem to think we want the boards.
It's bad enough these things squish our toes. Especially when you wear a wide width like myself - and the wides are never quite wide enough. The least they could do is put cushioning and arch support in there.
Seriously, do you shoe designers get kickbacks from Dr. Scholl's or something?
It's all very simple, no matter how beautiful you make the outside of the shoe, the inside needs to have arch support and cushioning. That's all there is to it. You're making these for human beings, not maniquins.
Eventually all these flat, hard shoe insides will damage our feet to where we can't wear your shoes anymore and instead have to buy orthapedic ones. Meaning you lose customers and therefore money. For the sake of your wallet at the very least you need to think about the health of our feet.
This is why I say all shoes should be designed by a panel made up of podiatrists, women, and foot fetishists.
Remember, next time you design some shoes, ARCH SUPPORT AND CUSHIONING IS A GOOD THING!
