The most anticipated film of the year did not disappoint over the weekend. It raked in 158.4 million dollars. The most grossing opening weekend for a movie ever.
I love the Batman movies. I love the story of Batman. Unlike other super heroes, Batman has no super powers. Bruce Wayne is just a normal guy (albeit hot and rich) trying to fight the injustice of Gotham City. In this movie Batman gets more high tech devices, a new ride and some serious action. I believe Christian Bale is the best Batman to come along.
Another factor that had people flocked to the theaters was to see the late Heath Ledgers final performance as The Joker. I thought it was going to be hard to watch but because he wore make up and changed his voice so much it was easy to just believe it was someone else up there. However, the once scene he was not wearing make up tugged at my heart because it reminded me how much of a loss Heath Ledger will be to the film industry. He was brilliant as The Joker. My only complaint was that he wasn't in it enough. I think he could have done a lot more with the character. I also think he should at least be nominated for the Oscar, if not win it.
I couldn't understand why they were remaking the Batman movies this quickly but I've realized they're not. These are not the Batmans of earlier movies. While those were flashy and corny these are dark and moving. These Batmans tap into the psychological problems facing Bruce Wayne. How far he's willing to stop crime in Gotham. I think Christopher Nolan and the whole team really give Batman that rawness that he needed in the past.
