I have to say that my sense of style is pretty conservative. I like to wear simple items and then add a modern flare or splash, if you will. And as I was milling around Soho, walking past the almost built safe haven- Hugo Boss, I find myself stumbling into a quaint store that truly embodies many elements of my style, J. Crew.
It has been an odd experience being in college when the fashion world decided to bring back clothes I wore as a child. The only difference between the clothes now and the clothes then, is that these clothes are categorized as the must needs for “big girls” or “grown-ups.” Ok, ok, there have been some break-through innovations and people who truly believe in making all of our lives fashion forward.
Back to J. Crew: Though J. Crew is definitely not high fashion or couture, who says you can’t be trés chic, outside of that high fashion category. I must say what I enjoy most about these pieces, is that they rip me out of the 80s into the 90s fashion seen, which is pretty exciting because women were definitely sexy then. They wore form fitting dresses hugging every curve with those come-and-get-me pumps. This look of course was topped of with va-va voom bold lipstick and very dark shades. Though my feet will suffer, I am stoked.
Below are some styles by Michael Kors, Cole Haan, and Via Spiga. I tried to show this fabulous J. Crew jacket, but I think that the website is behind the Soho location. It is very reminiscent of the 90s ruffle collar with a nice fit to the bodice. If you get a chance, check it out.
J. Crew also has an amazing silk blouse to go with that jacket. Who says? I say! And it come in 3 fab colors. I love it. Wear those items with a skinny jean, stellar glasses, and turn heads all day.
