Since June of this year there as been mad talk about her jean line that shameless flopped. In December Victoria Beckham is still in the fashion industry headlines. A few months ago I wrote about her dress line which I guess is call Victoria Beckham and I stated that the dresses had no shape and looked very sloppy on the models.
Now, I do not spend my day awaiting to see what's the latest new about Victoria Beckham I simply run into headlines and hot topics. So apparently that is what happen to me today. I had no idea that Victoria Beckham was "mentored" by Roland Mouret. It has been said and proven that there are very similarities to each design.
Victoria Beckham goes as far as having the same full-length zipper, the opted far a double rather than a single zipper. After reading paragraph after paragraph how Victoria is using the same seamstress, pattern makers, fabric suppliers, and the same atelier, not to mention the same lable, goodness I literally got a migraine. If you want to read more about this hoop-la got to http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1092601/Which-bit-dresses-DID-design-Victoria.html.
In my own words. I ask myself why does she wants to be a fashion designer so badly. Yes, if she wants to become a fashion designer then ok. But do the leg work. I do not beleive in using another designer connections. Yes, it is ok to have an mentor but there is no need to duplicate. I have no idea why designers (that they call themselves) asks for assistants. I understand mass production, but as a true fashion designer Victoria Beckham you draw (sketch) your on clothing and make your own pattern because you as the creator only knows how the clothing should fit.
Victoria Beckham was asked Do youd draw? She replied and answered No. Then she added by saying, nor do lots of designers. When I read that I wanted to fall out of my chair. She went on saying, she walks around in the dresses to see how they feel, etc.
I am not sure if Victoria Beckham even knows that icon Chanel didn't know how to draw, but she did know how to drape. Also, does she know still today Karl Legerfeld and Oscar de la Renta still sketch their own designs! But that is what you call a true fashion designer not these other fashion designers like herself that she was refering to.
Some designers today draw and find a pattern maker to make their samples for them. I am not for that. The pattern maker, if you really think about it, is actually looking at a drawing with no direction, and literally coming up with an idea on how to cut and make the pattern. If you ask me, the pattern maker just became the fashion designer. If you can not tell and explain to the pattern maker and give written instructions on how to cut and make the pattern, then by all means, don't call yourself a designer.
Coming from a fashion designer I do not need people like her making it seem so easily to obtain. It is very hard work and intense but very rewarding.
Note: I think that Victoria Beckham has an eye for fashion. I think that she should just keep wearing other designer pieces and not design a knock off Roland Mouret design.
