CCCAAFFFEEIINNE…
Is this you? Is caffeine something that you practically intake on a daily basis? Don’t worry; you’re not alone in your loving addiction… Instead, you are actually among the roughly 54% of Americans over 18 who drink coffee daily. Worried about converting the other half? No need. The makeup industry is already on the prowl.
Confused yet?
You see, makeup industries started to pick up this caffeine craze among the generally younger population. Then, in a moment of sheer brilliance (or insanity… you take your pick), the multi-million market decided to apply caffeine to makeup.
Now it’s not a new idea. For years, caffeine has been an ingredient in under eye makeup. It has been promoted for some time to “wake up tired eyes or stimulate skin cells.” However, that use to be as far as caffeine would make it in the beauty world. This does not hold true anymore.
At 1:00 a.m. on December 31st 2007, Samantha Critchell from the Associated Press indicated otherwise. As of the new 2008 year, according to her article, caffeine will be making the transition into skin creams, gels and lotions.
So what? So beware.
Caffeine, like any drug that stimulates the brain, is only good for you in moderation. While it has been proven to help fight skin cancer, it also has been recorded to cause dehydration of the skin and actually cause other forms of cancer. And while caffeine very well can revive whatever “bags” that you may apply it to, remember that caffeine can also keep “reviving” long after you need it-- particularly during a good night sleep.
When caffeine is in a drink, you can moderate your habits because you know caffeine is present. However, did you know about this surge in caffeinated makeup? How can one moderate what one doesn’t know?
Scary… considered the pros and cons of this new venture. It’s funny when you no longer have to ask whether you are a caffeine fanatic or not. That isn’t the relevant inquiry anymore if caffeinated makeup becomes the next big thing. Instead, the question becomes “Are you a female who wears makeup?”
