In my early years, I used to go to school (and basically almost everywhere) wearing black T-shirts and randomly ripped jeans. I still wear a lot of these to this day, but I also discovered a trend that really fits me. Surprisingly enough (well, actually, not really, in the past few years every new item I discovered and liked became a trend in the very next season - I still hate Avril Lavigne for giving the striped socks to the public, I really loved MY striped socks, bought before her appearance and before everyone started wearing them), Balenciaga came up with the Global Traveller collection this season, basically about a year after I discovered the hippy clothes.
I truly believe it is one of the greatest fashion movements ever, since it is not only pretty, but it also makes a strong statement, somewhere along the lines of "Cultures of the world, UNITE!". It not only combines amazing textures with gorgeous colours and various styles, but it also sends the message of world peace, of a true Global Village, where ethnic heritage is valued and passed along, where culture difference is not a source of arguments, but an opportunity to learn outstanding things about the other inhabitants of the Earth.
It may be just me, but my firm belief is that the collection gives the start of a new era, an ecological, free, tolerant, full of love era. The '60 without acid and with a better sense of fashion. I just hope Balenciaga - or, better yet, everyone - will continue this trend and make it worldwide recognized. Because fashion is the form of art that makes the strongest statements today. Because fashion is the form of art that has the greatest influence over people's minds. And because it's probably the most ecological trend, since most of the featured pieces of clothing can be bought either in vintage shops or at traditional festivals from all over the world.
And let us not forget the gorgeous scarves, there is nothing that stand against a really good scarf!
