Whether you want a day out, a weekend break or something more extravagant Expedia is a lifesaver. Not only are the prices extremely reasonable, but the choice is vast. A friend and I last year stayed for 4 nights in Budapest at a beautiful hotel and it cost a mere £200, including flights. I have had lots of recommendations from others about the website so it seemed only right that they get a mention. The service is so easy to use, they really have thought of everything for low cost, no fuss bookings.

Tips for your trip

- Shop around for your airport to hotel transfers. You can easily save £20.

- Do your research. Look into the attractions and transport in advance. Many cities have travel cards which offer savings on various sites of interest. In Budapest, some were even free and our travel card for 3 full days cost a bargainous £12.

- Don' t worry about breakfast. Hotels charge a fair amount for breakfast. You can grab something on the go for less than £1 and it encourages you to get out and about earlier in the day.

- Customise your trip. Look into changing your flights to make your break suit you. Expedia is very flexible and taking an early flight out, and late one back means you will get extra time away.
