Reinventing elegance was the goal for Elie Saab's Spring/Summer 2010 Ready to Wear collection. The runway was covered with iridescent black sands, which mirrored the dark particle-like sparkle in the pieces.
Elie Saab used recognizable but highly structured cuts and graphic silhouettes this season. Strong shoulders and rock energy definitely made its way into Saab's collection. The high waisted silhouette was chosen and accented by metallic details and drapery. Backs were framed by cut-outs and interlaced with embroidered straps.
Asymmetrical shapes and asymmetrical texture helped to give section the pieces. Proportion play also took place with large gold and bronze embroidered hip pockets and embroidered shoulder pads on flowing gbbowns.
The palette was inspired by the desert sky from dusk to midnight: soft twilight beige, sunset red, evening blues, and shining deep midnight black. The starry night was the inspiration of the pixelated print. Metallic was not forgotten, of course.
Draping and pleats on soft dresses and gowns punctuated the collection and offered a more Spring feel. Textures were a huge element. The blacks came in matte, satin and gloss. Embroidery included soft silver, antiqued gold and brass details.
