I love red wine, but with summer just around the corner, and its warm weather beginning to tease us, I find myself craving a cold beer. While I still drink wine during the summer, there is nothing quite as refreshing as a crisp, cold beer during the intense heat.
I enjoy a variety of beers, though I avoid the “generic” light beers such as Bud Light – I want a beer with a little bit of flavor. Recently a friend introduced me to a beer that is light, refreshing, and full of taste – exactly what I was looking for. The beer is Samuel Adam’s Cherry Wheat.
Upon popping open a bottle, the slightly sweet scent of cherries filled my nose. The first sip provided the refreshing taste I was hoping for. The sweetness of the cherries is complemented by a touch of honey and then balanced with its wheat flavor. This beer was ideal over the weekend, when yard work was completed in the sun. This beer also goes well with food and would be excellent at a barbeque; just ensure it is sunk deep into a bucket of ice, as it is best when served frosty and cold.
“The sweet fruitiness of the cherries is balanced against the crisp, cereal note from the malted wheat and the subtle citrus flavor from the Nobel hops. The end result is a sweet, refreshing beer that is light on the palate but long on complexity.” (from Sam Adams).
Hurry and buy some though – this variety is only available during the summer. It will be a staple during my summer, make sure it’s a part of yours too!
