Last week I had the pleasure to stop by the new
Sassoon Uptown Salon at its beautiful new ground-level space on 56th Street, just steps off 5th Avenue in NYC. The salon opening will be celebrating 45th anniversary in Manhattan - a great milestone for an iconic beauty brand.
After getting the walk through yet-to-be-opened very modern looking salon space, I had a chat with Sassoon's Creative Team on the journey the brand have gone through since the signature bob of the 60s until these days. Sassoon is actually one of the only brands who introduces seasonal hair collections, taught and implemented in the hair schools across the world. Their Fall 2009 collection is definitely going back to that classic bob, but introducing edgier cut and color.
The new collection named Mnemonic includes gently layered cuts - contemporary reinventions of the undercut - enhanced and sharpened using Sassoon Chromatology color service. Sassoon European Colour Director, Peter Dawson, said, ‘In the Mnemonic Collection, interior colour subtly shows through a series of chevron, spiral and L shaped sections; resulting in a wonderful fluidity of movement, and a warmth and burnished richness that brightens up the dullness of winter.'
I love the precise cuts Sassoon is known for and their edgier evolution this season. It looks like the short bob is coming back to style with more and more celebrities opting for shorter cuts, not to mention the queen of fashion herself - Anna Wintour- with her signature age-less bob, who enjoys the spotlight so much these days.
There is something to be said about the nostalgic values with the modern sensibility Sassoon's image projects, which could be especially suitable for these days, when we tend to look back to classics for inspiration.
