Last week, on a rainy Thursday night, a group of fabulous women gathered together at the cafe on a fabulous Saks Shoe floor for “An Evening Of Reinvention: From Hair to Toe, and From the Inside Out.”
I didn't realise how honest the conversation would be until one of the speakers and biggest inspirations of the night Elline Surianello (Founder & CEO of LeMetric Hair Center INC) started talking about hair, women’s relationship with their hair, and her own negative struggle that has a constant presence in her life (Elline suffers from a major hair loss since the early age of 9).
The subject has definitely resonated with me, although in my case there is no medical condition involved, just a mental struggle to accept my own extremely frizzy and unmanageable curly hair. If I could count all hours I spent in my life on straightening my hair, I could probably finish another degree or do something even more valuable. As I pondered these thoughts, Elline whipped off her hair in front of the shocked crowd of head-to-toes groomed women to demonstrate how comfortable she is with her issue. From that point my own hair struggle didn't seem so significant.
As Elline Surianello said later in our private talk - if you aren't happy with anything in your appearance - JUST FIX IT. She's been fixing it for many women at her Hair Center, where she took it upon herself "to stand up for the estimated 50 million women in the U.S. & Canada who suffer from some form of hair thinning or hair loss and created a viable hair loss solution".
As I walked out looking at the hundreds Jimmy Choos and Louboutins at the Saks shoe floor, I was only hoping their lucky future owners won't be wearing them to compensate on their body issues...
