Before leaving for my Holiday vacation on a Mexican beach, I presented my dear friend and fellow blogger Kristin of FashionStyleBeauty with a challenge - to find a magical hair treatment that can turn my frizzy jewfro into something manageable in rustic conditions, where hair straightener is out of sight. Without blinking she responded: "Awapuhi!". After getting over the initial scare of Keratin treatment (I've heard horror stories about its chemical ingredients), I was surprised to find out the Paul Mitchel Keratin treatment is all natural, based on organic ingredients. This fact was enough for me to agree on testing the procedure on my own hair.
I arrived at Raika Studio in Midtown NYC two days before my trip with high hopes after reading all about the products, including raving reviews from top fashion magazines. My hair was washed with the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Moisturizing Lather Shampoo and rinsed with the Awapuhi Wild Ginger Keratin Cream Rinse, after which it went through two-step process: Keratin Intensive Treatment (can be applied at home once a week) and KeraTriplex Treatment (pro application required).
Considering the whole process took only about 15 minutes and cost $35, the results were very impressive - my hair texture was significantly softer, shinier and the waves got more manageable shape to them, rather than just being one frizzy mess. It made the blow dry significantly easier as well, and overall made my hair look much healthier despite constant blow drying and coloring for the past 34 years. Now using the shampoo and rinse on a daily basis, completed with the Styling Treatment Oil, I continue seeing improved results, not to mention surviving 4 days on the beach without missing my straightener (waves might be my new 2011 look!).
Thanks Kristin for the recommendation and the generous people at Raika Studio for offering the free"test drive" - I'll definitely be back for more!
