Jimmy Choo for H&M is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated designer collaborations the retailer had in the recent years. While excitement and anticipation among the fashion lovers were obvious, the biggest question in the air was the quality - will the iconic Choo brand withstand the test of budget friendly production?
This was the main question on my mind while I entered the cozy and very private H&M showroom in Soho New York. I had the pleasure of seeing (and touching!) the pieces from the exclusive collection before its official release on November 14th. Without holding you any further- I was pleasantly surprised by what I've seen in person: the textures felt rich, the items looked expensive and the entire collection dominated by leather and suede had "It" written all over it.
The electric blue suede mini dress I've been coveting from the first released photos, immediately made it to my shopping list, along with the zebra print flats, gray suede handbag and a layered chain necklace (pic. #4 at the bottom). The heels looked incredible, and if I didn't make a promise to myself to avoid heeled purchases this season, I would definitely go for a pair of signature Choos.
H&M's Tony was there on hand to give us the tour and full insight on the collaboration. Tamara Mellon, Founder and President of Jimmy Choo, has definitely provided a challenge to the H&M production teams while asked to recreate the level and quality of her brand at the price points as low as third of the original. After my honest wondering how does this possible, Tony shared the fact about the H&M's advantage in efficient sourcing, allowing them to produce the best possible quality for the lowest price possible.
My second concern was durability - we both agreed that it depends a lot on the care the clothes receive from the owner. Many times people complaining about the reduced quality after multiple cleaning cycles, simply don't read the labels or think low priced pieces deserve dry cleaning. There is truth to that, I had to admit. I promised to take a good care of my future H&M pieces, perhaps the Jimmy Choo label will do a better job justifying the cleaners bill...
Check out the full collection items before you hit the stores. I doubt you will have any time to think while fighting the crowds for these Choos.
