My favorite brand collaborations always somehow involve geek and chic, just like HP and Vivienne Tam creating a digital clutch, and now Saks and Microsoft celebrating the Holidays, Fashion 2.0 style.
On Monday I had a chance to get a private tour from Kathleen Hall, general manager of Windows 7 marketing at Microsoft Corp. and see the new display windows, featuring scenes from Saks’ holiday children’s book, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Flake”, right before they were revealed to the crowd of shoppers.
More than 20 video monitors provided by Microsoft and powered by Windows 7 helped animate some of the book’s key scenes, creating an innovative display. Besides the monitors Saks and Microsoft have created interactive in-store lounges for shoppers (read husbands;). It's a great idea considering how much most men suffer from Holiday shopping accompaying their wives. Now they can relax in their own dedicated space and play with their favorite toys (laptops, of course!).
The sleek lounges feature Windows 7-based PCs, from which you can tweet and live blog your shopping adventures (that's exactly what I'm doing on that photo below).
To go even further with the tech trends, Saks created a special hashtag (#holidaywindows) people can use to tweet their holiday wishes and have them appear in the Saks windows. You don't have to visit Saks to do that - just tweet from home using the hashtag - and you will be syndicated across NYC's Fifth Avenue in a click of a button!
