I don't like the word "resolutions". It has some negative connotations implying that the present isn't good enough and needs to be improved in the New Year - an idea I find hard to get on board with. The present is perfect. It is as good as you visualized it yesterday. And if it isn't good, you need to work on your imagination. So instead of imagining a better future I like to share some of my new discoveries or learnings, things that inspire me right now (besides work and my business, which has been always an inspiration on its own). So here is what on my IT list right now:
1. Starting every morning with a freshly squeezed green juice instead of the traditional latte. Today was the first one, which included celery, apple, orange and mint. I've been also officially off coffee for more than two weeks now, feeling just as energized as before. I was glad to break this addiction of mine and prove myself a point that sources of energy are not limited to the black liquid with milk foam.
2. Changing the bedding to something more comfy and luxurious. I'm thinking fluffy pillows, sophisticated textures and bold colors. I find the need to revamp my bedroom decor once in a while, just like I do with my wardrobe. Considering we spend time in bed almost as much as wearing fashion, this should definitely be a priority.
3. Incorporating more color into wardrobe. As of right now my closet consists mostly of white, grays and blacks, mixed with some blush colors and metallics. Even though it's been my style staple for many years, I find myself longing some color to re-energize my look.
4. Trying new makeup techniques. Let's be honest, majority of us stick to the same quick makeup application we found working for us, but there is something about taking a fresh look at your own face and redefining some features. I'm especially inspired by the cat-eye from the 60s right now.
5. Opting for long lasting classics. Even though I always believed in smart investments when it comes to fashion, I haven't always followed my own believes... From now on I'd like to treat my closet as a museum (or at least a gallery) and allow only pieces that have a long term value. In the past couple of years I've been successfully consigning pieces from my closet, recycling them and making room for new ones. In order to do so, they must be of a certain quality, which is a great shopping filter, as I found out.
6. Traveling to places rich in art heritage. I'm working on rekindling my love of art after years of abandonment, while I was focusing on launching a business. I hope my planned visit to St. Petersburg in Russia (which I visited first at the age of 10), excites the lost artist in me and will sure boost some creativity.
7. Learning a new activity that takes you out of your comfort zone. I'm considering taking dancing classes to challenge my body, its coordination and most importantly to bring some fun into my fitness routine.
I wish you the most wonderful and inspiring 2012!
