Underground Catwalk SS 2010
Underground Catwalk SS 2010

This week at Berlin Mercedes Benz fashion week some designers chose to presents their collection on the U5 subway train, in a show called the Underground Catwalk.

While I'm not necessarily impressed by the clothes, I think the concept is pretty interesting and makes me wonder if NYC designers will ever explore a similar runway show on the subway.

Sounds like a cheap alternative compared to $500,000 show at the Bryant Park tents. Even with recently increased subway fares ($2.25) the publicity stunt is totally worth it. I would love to see some of the Brooklyn based emerging designers convert the L train to a runway during NY fashion week! Who is up for the challenge?

The Berlin photos are great, and yes, the NYC subway can be a very cool setting for a show. As long as our designers realize that authorization is necessary from MTA NYC Transit before staging anything in the system!

Ha ha great idea....what's the old adage, you might not always get permission but you can always ask for forgiveness.
