Kenley's "Balenciaga" Dress: Did she or Didn't she? Take Two.

Kenley's "Balenciaga" Dress: Did she or Didn't she? Take Two.
Kenley's "Balenciaga" Dress: D...

After the last week drama with the "Alexander McQueen" look a like dress, this week Kenley is back with another  questionable garment - a floral dress reminding very much of Balenciaga Spring 2008 collection. It was one of the  boldest Balenciaga statements, pretty hard to forget for everyone who has a slight interest in fashion. As Tim Gunn said to Kenley, she might need to consider fashion history classes.

You be the judge - on the left is   Balenciaga, on the right Kenley's Project Runway creation.

Thoughts?

Oooh, that's pretty darn similar. Personally I don't think the original was spectacular enough to copy!

So the Balenciaga hand painted too? It seem like they mentioned that it was, so that would be a similarity. Also, the sleeves and color palette are similar. The design of the dress is very consistent with Kenley's aesthetic, which I would say has a very conscious inspiration from the 1930's and 1940's. I think that Tim Gunn and Micheal Kors had some sage advise about Fashion History and learning what other designers are doing. I don't know that they would be as forthcoming with such advise if they believed she was simply copying. I think their comment was good advise for anyone in any of the creative fields. I think they were telling her to broaden her viewpoint and field of influence as a means to strengthen her vision and originality. Similar, yes. Copying no. I think she needs to grow in the other aspects of being a designer, that are outside one's own vision/design.

To be honest with you, it happend 4 times so ' Don't tell me that you as a Fashion designer dont watch the Fashion Channel or Editorials and Magazines etc.... She knew about all this dresses from this other designers, I believe SHE IS A COPYCAT! I dont doubt about her talent but dont play stupid and say that ' SHE DID NOT KNOW THAT SHE HAD MADE A OUTFIT VERY SIMILAR/ almost the same as this other designers. PLEASEEEEE! WHO YOU KIDDING????!!!! If you gonna compete to win , play fair and honest! I guess you got what you deserve, not to mention " YOUR EGO WAS YOUR WORST ENEMY!'

She definitely needs to take a Fashion History course AND needs an attitude adjustment as well. Don't make similar replicas of famous designers' work and don't be snappy with the judges. ~S.C.

WOW! How crazy is this. The sad thing about this is that she was allowed to continue of Project Runway. That was not fair non what so ever!

I think that Kenley's dress is much more beautiful than the Alexander McQueen look. Kenley would benifit from design history, not only would it help her avoid faux pas where her fashions are thought to be copied from someone else, but she has such a love for vintage fashion that it might help her when designing those wonderful looks she creates. I am glad Lean won, but Kenley will make a name for herself on the runway for years to come!

Ug. Does it matter? Both dresses are massively ugly. That pattern is horrible on both of them and the sleeves make me want to scream. *shudder* Yes, the pretty much look alike - especially in how horrid they are!

Kenley seems like she did the pret-a-porter version of both designers' pieces. And while both her versions are cute, they are missing a little poetry, no?

If an average guy like me can look at two pics side-by-side, and think "huh, that's a copycat," and do this twice...ultimately the show did themselves a favour by bouncing her first in the final.
