Kenley's "Alexander McQueen" Wedding Dress: Did she or Didn't she?
Kenley's "Alexander McQueen" W...

No doubt, Kenley's final collection surprised many Project Runway fans at the Bryant Park. Brooklyn based designer managed to impress even tough judges with her statement wedding gown, but only an experienced eye (someone like Michael Kors) could notice Kenley's true inspiration - Alexander McQueen fall 2008 collection shown at Paris earlier this year.

This is one of those cases when it's hard to separate inspiration from ideas borrowing. So what do you say - did she or didn't she? ...

Update: read more about Kenley's copycat drama - this time it's Balenciaga's turn...

For me, it's a copy, but it caused some heated discussions today - some disagreed but most people I talked to (about fifteen) said 'Total copy!'

I say total copy she really dosen't have any real ideas outside of the one type of outfit she makes all the time.

Oddly enough, I actually like Kenley's better!

I agree it is inspired by the McQueen, but it is better. It is softer and looks more comfortable. Remember this is a wedding dress, need to be comfortable.

Definately stolen, the minute Micheal Korrs picked up on it Kenley should have been disqualified from the final three. Project runway had no problem when the contestant had the pattern books and no idea/inspiration was in question, be consistant!

Here is a great opinion which makes sense: Lindsay M said, on October 9th, 2008 at 1:53 am Yes, the dresses are VERY similar. However, a dress with that level of technical difficulty would have taken a long time to construct single-handedly, and I feel that she would have had to start it before the spring shows (remember, it was completely finished when Tim Gunn visited her). Furthermore, Kenley’s self-involvement is so apparent in the episodes that it is easy to believe she wouldn’t look at the spring shows too closely. I think that the other time the judges noted that her work looked like another designer she similarly denied any connection, and I believed her then… I don’t think the bubble environment of Project Runway lends itself well to being “inspired” by outside designers in a copy-cat kind of way.

I am pained to have to state the obvious for the haters out there, but comparing the 2 dresses is like comparing a Honda w/ a BMW or a PT Cruiser w/ a Model T... Yeah, they're similar--obviously they're both copied off of a Cinderella style dress, but they're so different from each other that you have to have serious judgment issues to claim fraud...

Isn't Kenley the one who said a while back that she "doesn't look at collections"? In any event, copy or not, Kenley's outfit looks like something you'd find in your Easter basket. Just my opinion but it looks like a baby chick coming out of its shell. I'm not into fashion but I love the show.

Like Tim Gunn has stated. Kenley need to take fashion history class. As designer myself, I always look and see if they are any designs that are like mine. If I have seen that a designer has already done it, then I redesign, always.

if she really didn't see either the McQueen or Balenciaga, then they should be recruiting her to work in their salons, since she obviously has a feel for couture trends! But my thought is that she may have seen them in passing and pretended not to. Then she subconsciously channeled them, and acted as if she had no clue....

Can't stand Kenley. Her green blouse looked just like project runway design that Michael Kor said looked like a French Maid uniform. It was a long black gown with a white feather collar. Kenley said that she doesn't pay attention to other designers BUT she said that she stunk into last years show and got thrown out...I guess she meant she doesn't look at the designs while attending fashion shows.
