In case you've wondered who was the designer behind my gorgeous dress I wore for the "It" Designer finale - it was Kathlin Argiro, our fabulous contest judge and finalists mentor.
Few days before the runway show I stopped by her showroom at the heart of the Garment District to search for my "It" Dress. After looking at Kathlin's collection as well as some bridesmaids/party dresses she custom makes to order, we moved into her Couture garments, stored high up on the racks for very special occasions.
My occasion was special indeed - after putting so much work into organizing this contest during the past few months, I was ready for the long awaited evening of the runway show, and crowning of the next "It" Designer. I had to have the most unique and unforgettable dress that will be shining through the evening (without outshining designers collections of course :).
At first, light turquoise stretchy construction embellished with millions of Swarovski crystals didn't look wearable, as it was used years ago as a performance piece. Luckily both Kathlin and I were so intrigued by the material, we decided to MAKE IT WORK.
With Kathlin's magic the dress transformed from the long tube (see above) into magical 60s inspired frock with a modern touch. The crystals added a special glamour to it and felt like they made for camera flashes.
Few days later, I posed on the red carpet, feeling the luckiest girl alive with her own one of a kind dress, made by a designer who honed her knowledge of couture dressmaking techniques while working for Arnold Scaasi and Carmen Marc Valvo.
There was no single person who didn't ask me : "Who made your dress?".
"It's Kathlin Argiro Couture", I said while watching the crystals spark in people's eyes...
