Project Runway vs. Real Women.

Project Runway vs. Real Women.
Project Runway vs. Real Women.

Before I write this post, I would like to apologize to Nicole Donnelly, the lovely "Project Runway" fan who was lucky to get the limited edition Suede's winning dress on BlueFly.com. I can only imagine how excited she was to pre-order this dress, but unfortunately became a "Project Runway" victim instead.

Also I believe FlyPaper, the BlueFly blog, did not mean to cause any harm by posting her photo wearing the most anticipated dress right after getting the delivery.

Unfortunately I feel someone need to tell the truth here, and I truly think this dress is the worst thing you can put on a "normal" size woman, unless she is dressed as a "Project Runway victim" for Halloween.

Sometimes we chase clothes or accessories for the emotional value in it - be it Louis Vuitton's latest "It" bag or Suede's "Project Runway" adventure in dressmaking.

And sometimes, designers on "Project Runway" create pieces that may be creative, but completely unflattering on women's body.

In this case, it was both...

Nicole has probably the most average female physique, with great proportions and a lovely waist line.  So why does she look few sizes bigger, and even age inappropriate wearing this avanguard eco-friendly tutu dress?

Maybe this is something Bravo producers would like to consider while creating the next fashion reality series - Fashion House

Patterns, especially of this diagonal style are not flattering on plus size women. Also, the tulle under the skirt makes her look even bigger since it adds volume where she does not want it.

right, the thing is I don't think she is even a "plus size"... Nicole looks to me about size 8 or 10 max, which is pretty average.

I think years of making "fashions" for stick figures have made all designers forget what a real woman looks like. This is why I often say that all us women who are sick of things that are just plain fugly and don't fit right should pool our talents, resources, and ideas and come up with things that the designers could never think of themselves. Flattering clothing that fits. Styles for every shape and size. From the short to the tall, from the thin to the fat, from the ones with large hips but flat chests to the ones with huge chests and scrawny legs.

I don't really thing the dress is even that flattering on the model. The tutu shortens her legs while the wide band increases the width of the waist. It really does not make sense for people to try to fit into the same sample size or style of clothes, considering how it should be the clothes that fit the person and not the other way around.
