With the economy being at one of its biggest lows since the great depression in the USA, fashionistas everywhere are shivering in their gucci fringe boots. Is this the end of the fashion world as we know it? Luxurious? No my little beezles, tis only the beginning. The recession is going to be the modern day rennisance. Consumers have settled, become mainstream and cultish in their fashion choices. If it's not mainstream, its not "fashionable". But what the average consumer does not understand is "fashionable" is not another name for fad follower, trendy, or safe. Fashionable is a term used to describe an individual who deeply understands, studies, and interprets style through inspiration and self expression. Look back to the Great Depression. Designers became innovative and created their own images because they did not have the money to import popular parisian lace or italian leather. Instead, a new textile (denim) was created and has become a staple in the closets of many. Levi Strauss and Company, the first denim company continues to be a classic today. Ralph Lauren was given the freedom to emmulate "American Style" because Americans finally had something they could contribute to the fashion world. Also, with the south being a large producer of cotton, we made the T-shirt a universal staple as well. Americans may not major in couture, but we can sure throw down the basics. I have to wonder what is in store next, what textile will come of the great recession? EXCITED <3
