Pape Sandals: Laced with creativity
Pape Sandals: Laced with creat...

I've been searching for the perfect pair of around-town sandals.  Summers in the city generally involve my walking two to three miles a day, resulting in merciless blistering from cute shoes du jour.

I think I've found my answer!  Designer Patricia Gasparian created Pape Sandals in Brazil after studying at Parsons and working on Diane von Furstenberg's creative team.

You can design your own pair, which consists of a flat leather sole with 3 loops and the straps of your choice.  There are ten or more ways to tie these shoes, and each pair comes with a little manual full of suggestions.  The ties are made from vintage clothing, old scarves, curtains, and leather.

They're adorable and totally versatile.  Plus, once I get a blister (as I invariably will, regardless of shoe), I can switch up the tie and avoid it!  Form AND function, who knew?!

According to CoolHunting.com, "Gasparian’s inspiration was to sell an idea rather than a product, and this DIY ethic appeals to even the more money-laden clientele that the shop has."

Check them out at www.papebrasil.com.

That's so cool! They're so cute! That's so awesome how you can tie it ten different ways and how the ties are made from vintage clothing and old scarves. How fun! :)

These shoes are SO cute! I went to the website, but they didn't have a link to buy. I'm assuming you can only get them in the kiosk in Brazil? :( How are we Americans supposed to get them?

There MUST be a way to get them in the U.S. I'll keep looking into it. Wouldn't be surprised if Ebay had a pair or two. Will update!! :)

This is totally adorable. I love the concept- and I bet it's easy to switch out the tie when you get bored with it.
