Before Nelsigne moved to the United States in 1924 there was a revival of the Ku Klux Klan and Time Magazine debuted. In 1920 the Eighteenth Amendment had been enacted, producing a decade of Prohibition. This started the underground ‘speakeasies’ to crop up. When the Amendment was repealed in 1933, these ‘speakeasies’ became the basis for the modern nightclub. Chain stores began to emerge in the 1920s creating a new source of apparel for the public.
