I was surfing the internet as usual and typed "buy kurtas" expecting to see some indian websites pop up in the search results. To my surprise 6 out of 10 websites that popped up with "Kurtas" keywords were american websites including Target, overstock.com and Gap.
And when I entered the websites, the products with "kurta" keyword usually had bold prints, were long tunics and looked very much indian, but on western models.
I couldn't stop wondering how much display matters especially in the fashion industry. A tunic that is made in India, but worn by an american model on an american website costs not less than $25. Whereas a similar tunic imported directly from India by an independent retailer like www.vanitrends.com costs less than $12. What a difference in price!
So my point here is, if you like wearing tunics and plan to buy some from the big american websites for some big money, don't forget to check out some indian websites for the same!
