Is it possible to love shoes and be environmentally conscious at the same time? Can a woman be Sex & the City-ish and greenish?
Of course! Organic and eco-friendly shoes are hot! And more and more designers "turn to the green side". My personal favourites are Hetty Rose and Kitty Cooper.
Many shoe brands have become more conscious about worker's rights. Bad publicity on working conditions for several big sneaker brands have led to improvement.
Ethical and green fashion isn't a trend anymore. It has come to stay. Consumers have high demands when it comes to fair trade and organic materials and manufacturing. The fashion industry follows; if green and fair equals money, then green and fair it is!
Right now, there's a lot going on. The big companies are starting to get the green thing. But it's still designer pioneers that's out there doing it. Which, I think, is good for us! Change is exciting, and we're here to see it!
There's a whole bunch of innovative designers out there with beautiful ideas, not least when it comes to shoes!
Kitty Cooper (http://www.kitty-cooper.co.uk/) makes shoes out of vintage fabrics and trims and non-toxic tanned leather. The shoes are made by a small buisness in the UK. Hetty Rose (http://www.hettyrose.co.uk/) makes shoes out of vintage kimonos. The shoes are handmade in the UK. Terra Plana (http://www.terraplana.com/) is a well known brand with shoes for both men and women. Charmoné (http://www.charmone.com/) makes eco-friendly and sweatshop free shoes with a stylish twist.
I like the Swedish brand Pjux (http://www.pjux.com/). They make stylish and sexy shoes for both men and women.
And how about the sneakers, then? My favourites are Jinga Shoes (http://www.jingashop.com/). They're sweatshop free and contains no animal products. Jinga also funds projects in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. And, the shoes look extremely good! Veja (http://www.veja.fr/) is another sneaker brand with beautiful and ethical shoes.
