Pssst: The US government and old power to be energy conglomerates are laughing their way to the bank. They are industriously scheming and paving the way for more oil drilling, not funding alternative energy, building more nuclear power plants, more bombs, more coal plants, and creating lots more pollution.
Is industry cleaning up their act? Nada. Are they being responsible citizens? Barely. I recently received an email that beautifully demonstrated why building another tiny (not) oil drilling plant in Alaska's ANWR was no big deal. It was very convincing, until I asked,"What????" Here in New Mexico oil companies are trying to reproduce like rabbits, and lie all the way: and they are winning. Big problem here: clean water.
What's happening in your back yard? Industry, oil, power plants are some of the biggest polluters of our earth. This should not b e news. Our excessive pollution adds to global warming. Polluting environments right next to (practically the north pole) makes more heat for already melting ice caps: dah?
Our government wants to flood us with fear while they endorse the same plans that have created these problems in the first place. They think this is smart, frugal, and seem clueless about the results. The oil companies knew exaxctly what they were doing: they funded companies for years to produce the false "scientific" reports to divert our attention again about global warming.
Yeah you know all this, it was news last year. However what could be real news would entail our really organizing to confront the government, the candidates, the corporations and call them on their illegal activities. We need to enforce the pollution rules of the land on both local, state, and federal levels. We need to demand money and lots of it for alternative fuels, energy, and, vehicles. Affordable vehicles.
There's a herd of elephants in the living room, the kitchen, and the back yard. They are in our offices, churches, and fields. People are pretending not to see them. They are afraid to talk to them. They are too busy keeping the flies away, while the elephants and a few creepy big snakes are building the coffins for all creatures on planet earth.
Surely, you and I are only peons in a monstrous crushing wheel. "What else can we do?" Start by rallying and talking to those snakes. They enlist the elephants for assistance. Call the cops and National guard or a slew of lawyers to enforce our anti-pollution laws.
Hey once, some cows wandered into my garden. I ran out of the house to shoo them away. Making quite a scene. Then I found myself fcace to face with a bull. I was terrified. It was a big bull too. We literally were face to face with many 4 inches between us. I did a quick prayer, picked up a bunch of weeds, waved it under his nose, and asked him to follow me. Fortunately he did, and so did the cows. I then called the farmer to let him knows his bull was out of the pasture.
Elephants work for peanuts. Talk to them. I we are lucky, we might create a world for the next 7 generations.
