Costume designing can be a huge puzzle. When filming a movie or a TV show, the characters really come alive with the costumes. Costumes make the character.
Eric Damon, in my opinion, is one of the best costume designers. He is the costume designer for the new, hip TV show, "Gossip Girl" which is known for all of the high fashion clothes in it. Eric Damon uses the actors figure and the character's personality to create an amazing style.
For example, Blair Waldorf (acted by Leighton Meester) is a very sophisticated teenager whose mother is a top fashion designer. Leighton Meester is petite and has great, slender legs and sculptersque shoulders. So Eric Damon puts together outfits that are very tailored and fashionable but still emphasizes Leighton's flawless shoulders and legs.
Serena Van der Woodsen, played by the famous Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star, Blake Lively, is down-to-earth and as Eric Damon said "thrown together, always looks amazing, kind of tusseled....feels very natural." Eric Damon sums up Serena's look in a sentence. But Blake Lively is very tall, there is an elegant taste about her, and approachable look. Eric Damon emphasizes her long toned legs and curvaceous waist with these casual but egdy and expensive shirts, jeans and pumps.
So capturing just the right look and style can be hard but Eric Damon is obviously talented by incorporating people that may be completely opposite of the character and making that character come alive.
