There is a song by Pink called “Stupid Girls.” This may hold some truth in reflecting the media figures impacting the young girls of our nation today. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan. There are some people who have seen the brighter side of star idol-ism abhor the above mentioned, but sadly, these infamous girls are influencing the youth of America.
Imagine your 6-year-old daughter with big, innocent brown eyes and curly locks and chubby cherub-like cheeks coming in one day wearing a black lace bra and thong and singing “gimme gimme more gimme more.” Of course, you then proceded to feel incredibly embarrased and ask her why she is dressed like that and why she is singing that song. Her reply, “ Mommy(Or Daddy) I saw Britney Spears on TV doing that and I Love her. I want to be just like her when I grow up.” WHAT?! How DO you react to that?
Celebrities in the world today have forgotten an important factor of their lives: They are public icons and idols for many people and they must step up and take responsibility for their actions, or quietly bow out from the limelight. For exmple, Britney Spears is not fooling anyone with her “I hate the paparazzi so I am going to outrageous and unbelievable things to make the media NOT want to cover me,” act. She defends herself by saying that she does not have any intention of being a role model. Reality check: YOU’RE FAMOUS, grow up and realize that if you’re on the news 24/7 and in every magazine known to mankind and every website known to man and robot, you are going to be impacting people’s lives, and yes Ms. Spears, this means little girls! Then again, I suppose one cannot expect much from her and the rest of the (aptly named by the NEW York Post) Bimbo Summit- they can’t even take care of themselves!
Unfortunately, the disease is contagious and now young girls are losing their ambitions to be prominent, influential leaders in the world and instead want to party like rockstars and think that getting trashed is a cool and glamorous thing to do. The world is going in a sad directioon and we need to change this fast.
Therefore, people of the world who remember the Glory days before Paris Hilton was “hot”, when Lindsay Lohan was actually sober (yes there was a time), and before Britney Spears banned wearing underwear and started acting like trash, let us unite and try to de-glorify the idea of being a junkie and ban these types of people from the media and give the people who are actually benefitting the world the limelight they deserve. Long live Sanity!!
