How to Make a Natural Hair Conditioner
You can easily make a deep conditioning treatment for your hair. You can make your natural hair conditioner with ingredients you may already have in your fridge and cupboard. It is convenient and inexpensive to make your own natural spa quality treatments for your hair.
You can use any vegetable oils as a hot oil treatment for your hair. Pour about two tablespoons of vegetable oil in a baggie. Submerge the baggie in a cup of hot water. When the oil is heated, use a wide paint brush to paint the oil onto your hair. Start about one inch away from the scalp to avoid getting too much oil on the scalp or you can start right at the scalp if you have very dry scalp and hair. Lightly massage the oil into the hair and make sure each hair shaft is coated with the oil. Wrap a grocery bag around the head and secure it with a clip before wrapping a towel around the head. The towel will help keep the oil heated so it will penetrate the hair shafts. After half an hour or overnight for extra conditioning, wash hair as usual.
The next treatment involves creating a creamy hair mask that is left on the hair for ten to thirty minutes. You can mayonnaise by itself or you can add other ingredients to it for a hair mask. The eggs give the hair protein, the vinegar gives the hair shafts clarity and the oils protects and smooths the hair. Mayonnaise has long been valued for softening and conditioning hair. If you can stand the natural fragrance of the mayonnaise and you are not allergic to eggs, this hair conditioner can work for you.
Yogurt and mashed bananas are other bases for hair masks. Avocado and mango also have an natural oil rich pulp. By mixing these ingredients with mayonnaise or your favorite conditioner, you can create a natural hair mask. The addition of baking soda or apple cider vinegar will remove residue left over from hair products. The addition of lemon juice will lighten hair in the sun. You can create these simple hair conditioners with whatever ingredient you have on hand. Just make sure your homemade hair conditioner has enough texture to stay on the hair for ten minutes or more.
Paint both the hot oil and the hair mask treatments on with a paint brush to avoid drenching the hair because too much of these ingredients can leave hair feeling heavy. It is normal to require a few shampoos immediately afterwards to remove any heavy feeling. If necessary, use a one part apple cider vinegar and nine parts distilled water as a clarifying rinse.
It is easy to condition your hair with common ingredients. Regular conditioning will soften and improve the appearance of your hair. It is convenient to make your own spa quality hair treatments and you can save money by making your own natural hair conditioners.
