Loving Our Bodies To....

"The essence to being human is that one does not seek perfection."...George Orwell.  How much do you love your body? Admittedly, at times, I find that I don't. I call those times, my times of "momentary relapse into fantasy". Like the lady said when she slapped her suitor back to reality once he's gone somewhat overboard in his zealous puppy love for her, "Get over it!"

Of course, I'm talking about Cher in an unforgettable scene with Nicholas Cage, but, on a serious note, just how many of us can get over feelings of dislike for the body God gave us? When we think of Anorexia, most of us would envision some skin and bone young woman staring in a full length mirror, perhaps in her bedroom, away from prying eyes, assessing her thin frame, yet, not actually seeing. She's seeing a grotesque fat person in the mirror where there's obviously no fat.

Anorexia is very real. It is a medical condition that can be treated. Because Anorexics are in an extreme mode of malfunctioning, they need help to get themselves back on track. According to the National Institute of Health, this eating disorder,as well as Bulimia and Binge eating, oftentimes co-exists with other disorders like depression, substance abuse and anxiety.

Anorexics, initially concerned about their body image might began to eat small meals and exercise a bit. They began to fear weight gain , which causes them to exercise more, eat less ...spiraling out of control. Bulimics eat large amounts of food, then go to throw up,or, purge themselves. In both instances, the person feels guilty, but, unable to stop.

Binge eaters do not throw up, that is why, the National Institute of Health reports, binge eaters become overweight, or, obese.  Men are not immune to eating disorders. They also give in to the pressure to be thin. Reportedly, 1 in 10 men are anorexic. Men, too, look at magazines in their quest to become perfect might begin to combine excessive exercise with near starvation diets...

I'm not anorexic... I sometimes consume good food like it's my last supper and hardly gain a pound.  When I was younger, I complained about my lack of...well, I'm older now and I'm at a place where I'm loving all of me. I've learned to "just let it flow" and allow myself to Be...
