We love them! Women, children and men ... all can don a pair of colorful, cheap and lightweight flip flops to take us on our daily visits to the mall, beach and evening barbecues without a problem, right? Wrong!
It appears from a medically standpoint that we really shouldn't be wearing flip flops on a daily basis. Flip flops were created in a sense for the beach, or just for hanging out poolside. Somehow, our foot fetish for flip flops have become the norm to wear with sundresses, shorts, jeans, and everday casual wear, simply because they're so darn sexy, cool and comfy.
Flip flop injuries can occur in bruised toes ... nail, heels and planter inflammation(the soft area underneath the foot) Flip flops because they're so flat, have zero arch support. Another concern is how exposed to sunlight your feet are. It's recommended that we wear sunscreen on our feet in summer to prevent certain skin cancers.
Medically speaking, it's advised certain people avoid wearing flip flops altogether: Diabetics , folks with obvious foot problems and those of us who are obese/overweight.
If you're like me and just refuse to give up her flip flops , then we're told to wear the ones with thick soles, for arch support...wear them on summertime beach strolls, or, lying poolside, with our exposed feet lathered in sunscreen... I'll try to contain myself, but, I have some new ones that I 'm dying to go shopping in!
